Event Description

Dear LA Mediators

It’s time for our first meeting of 2016!  This year has already been moving at light speed, so we are going to meet Wednesday March 23rd, 2016 location to be announced, to discuss several interesting issues in mediation. Cocktail hour from 6pm to 6:30pm and meeting from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

First, as I am going to be presenting at the upcoming International Academy of Mediators in March in New Zealand, I want to run through a part of that presentation that deals with working with participants with deeply held core/religious beliefs and how to effectively mediate with them.  I’ll have some short clips and a discussion of the issues and a real life case example.  I appreciate the chance to present this work to each of you! Thanks LA Mediators!

In addition, we have a long overdue discussion about how to effectively market and gain traction in a market no longer dominated by a court annexed ADR system.  Most of the “established” mediators in town created their practice in a different environment.  Nevertheless, in a market now dominated by the private sector, we all have ideas as to how to go about creating a mediation practice that is satisfying and successful.  There are no wrong answers to the questions in this market, so be prepared to share ideas and be open to the thoughts of others on the subject.  LA Mediators philosophy is simple:  We all do better when we all do better…  So let’s brainstorm together on this.

Lastly, I want to have an open forum on whatever is on your mind.  Whether it’s marketing, techniques, bringing current cases with specific challenges to work through, we can bring the collective wisdom of the roundtable to bear.

So please RSVP to Kym Adams at- or text 951-206-0021 ( with your first and last name)  no later than March 17th 2016  We have room for about 15, and as you all know, we sell out on our meetings.  Kym has all the details, so contact her or me with any questions.

Thank you all so much for your patience.  We are planning more meetings and want to present topics that are relevant and helpful to you and your practice.

Your President for Life

Bob Tessier

This program is a practical training course. While covering theory to give you a framework and the intellectual understanding of negotiation and mediation, this course is about learning. Our focus is on your doing, practicing and experimenting with negotiating and mediating. There is much to teach about mediation and negotiation, but one reason mediators fail is because they understand the theory, but cannot execute it when under the gun. In this course, you will mediate and negotiate your way…See More

We volunteer and we gripe.  We go to “networking” events, and don’t feel comfortable there or don’t know what to do.  Many of those trying to establish a career in mediation come from prior careers in law, mental health or education.  These three careers are among the weakest at marketing and self-promotion.  Our industry suffers unnecessarily because so many are highly skilled at mediating, and yet lack the skills that enable them to secure the opportunity to actually mediate.  In this course,…See More
