August 12, 2013 Meeting on Deception

Dear LA MediatorsI hope the summer is treating you all well!  We are living in interesting times, and there are certainly many new opportunities for mediation and mediators!Normally we take the Summer off.  But not this year!  We are convening in Santa Monica on August 12 to discuss deception.  This is a meeting you won't want to miss.  We have two presenters who have some very interesting views on the subject.  One of our members, Darrell Forgey, and the Hon. Another great LA Mediators Event!

Dear LA MediatorsWe packed the house February 6, 2013 for our discussion with three lawyers, who are consumers of mediation services, to hear their perspectives on mediation and selecting a mediator.  Many thanks to our panelists, Peter Babos, Edward Lee and Lauren Petkin for their perspectives, and to Peter for volunteering his offices and conference room for our overflow crowd.  And special thanks to Kym for organizing the whole affair!I think all would agree that the mediators learned a lot…See More

Debrief of our May Meeting

Dear LA Mediators

So you want to join a panel? We packed the house again, and obviously this question is high on the list for the professional mediator.

Thanks again to our panelists, Rosemarie Chiusano of Judicate West, Carry Sarnoff of PMA, and Kym Adams of IVJC, and to Judicate West for hosting our meeting. We had three different perspectives on the issue, and I think everyone was taking the solid advice given to…

Mark you Calendars for May 26: "So you want to join a panel?"

Dear LA Mediators

It is hard to top a night of wine, pasta, Irish ballads, and a room full of lawyers having a good time...

I was pleased to see so many LA Mediators at the party and I saw plenty of examples of mediators displaying their "A" game making contacts and marketing. The IABA is the perfect venue, and we will debrief and talk about your optimum strategy in this setting down the road.

But onto our May meeting:…

AB 2475 with recent amendment now only applies to matters under the Family Code

Dear LA Mediators

I know there was a recent flurry of activity on AB 2475. It was good to get the info out there, and I think that pressure from several places has resulted in a change to the bill.

On April 22 the bill was amended to apply only to matters heard under the Family Code. A .pdf of the amended bill is attached.…

What day is better for you in November to have our Round Table Meeting:
1. Wed Nov 10
2. Thur Nov 11
Originally we had scheduled for Nov 3rd
However, when we spoke you informed me some members indicated that they would not be available that evening. I just need confirmation from you, Charles, Deb, and Glenn which day and which location or should I ask Charles?
Please let me know so I can schedule accordingly.

This program is a practical training course. While covering theory to give you a framework and the intellectual understanding of negotiation and mediation, this course is about learning. Our focus is on your doing, practicing and experimenting with negotiating and mediating. There is much to teach about mediation and negotiation, but one reason mediators fail is because they understand the theory, but cannot execute it when under the gun. In this course, you will mediate and negotiate your way…See More

Grow Your Mediation Practice Now! with Lee Jay Berman at American Institute of Mediation

January 28, 2017 from 9am to 4pm
We volunteer and we gripe.  We go to “networking” events, and don’t feel comfortable there or don’t know what to do.  Many of those trying to establish a career in mediation come from prior careers in law, mental health or education.  These three careers are among the weakest at marketing and self-promotion.  Our industry suffers unnecessarily because so many are highly skilled at mediating, and yet lack the skills that enable them to secure the opportunity to actually mediate.  In this course,…See More
