LIFE WITHOUT CONFIDENTIALITY DEEMED INCONCEIVABLE

Yesterday, what a terrific evening, here's what happened. Our host was Wendy Kramer, mediation legend, at her Santa Monica offices, thank you Wendy. Event organized as always by Kym Adams, indefatigable energy, thank you Kym. Speakers were Julius Grush and Sean Judge, wisdom squared, who rendered intelligible the potentially unintelligible topic of mediation confidentiality, thank you Julius and Sean for those comprehensive handouts. Apart from one contrarian gadfly, all agreed that…See More

FEBRUARY 23 - A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

Only matters of the most pressing urgency, or insurmountable lethargy, could have prevented writing about the marvelous evening to which LA Mediators were treated on February 22. Now I must eschew excuses, and tell about the marvelous wines and victuals provided by the generosity of Robert Tessier.  Those who hear the words Cakebread Cellars will understand that when this man opens wine for his guests, it is not any old plonk but libation worth drinking. Matching the Cakebread,…See More

WILL YOU COME TO DINNER IF I ASK REALLY NICELY; IALA JULY 27 $40; 6:00 FOR MIXER, 7:00 FOR DINNER

If you don't know Jack Denove, you're probably lucky. Fact is, he's this year's President of the Italian American Bar Association, as engaging a bunch of roughnecks as you're likely to find this side of the Rio Grande. He has invited the "lawyer-cowboys" and the "lawyer-huntsmen" - (yes, I know, the very names are sexist, and too they smell of horses) - to dinner this coming Tuesday July 27 at 1051 NORTH BROADWAY, Los Angeles (Chinatown). To make this nose-curling event a bit more palatable, he…See More

YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED...

LA MEDIATORS' annual garden party and brunch is set for Sunday, June 27 at 1:00 p.m. Last year it was a pot luck event that resulted in some truly spectacular dishes and several worthwhile speakers. This year our Exec Dir has reminded me to mention that the swimming pool will be open for anyone who wants to dip, and if you are in the mood to bat a ball over the net just bring shoes and racket; we will provide the balls. Also we now have three chickens who like to attend gatherings as long as…See More

FRIDAY THANKS

Major thanks to Susan Swenson for her membership contribution; being from Malibu, she adds a touch of class to LA Mediators. (This should not be construed as saying anything untoward about Hemet.) And many thanks to Bob Tessier for sponsoring the LA Mediators table at the Italian-Irish dinner on Wednesday evening. The food and drink fortunately were entirely Italian, but most of the speakers were Irish or perhaps it just seemed that way. The LA Mediators table was full to overflowing, so some…See More

FRIDAY THANKS

This week I'm delighted to thank Glenn Gottlieb and Nanci McMurray and Rita Lauria for their membership contributions, which are much appreciated. All three also attended our meeting last evening in Woodland Hills in the great conference room, which sits 20 in comfort and was full. The topic was gender differences in the practice of mediation. We heard from moderator Wendy Kramer, Jay MacIntosh, Cindy Pasternak and Rita Lauria, all of them having great expertise in the mediation field and made…See More

FRIDAY THANKS TO NEW SUBSCRIBERS

Thanks this week to Kevin Kump, Esq. who practices in Claremont, California, for his membership subscription, which is much appreciated. We had another full house, or rather we packed the largest conference room, at Judicate West in West LA for last week's meeting and have some great things planned for the coming season.

Hi Charles,

I am really bummed I wasn't able to make it to the roundtable. I had so many things come up last minute. I really want to embrace mediation as a career and I feel I could learn so much from this group. Talking to you was especially motivating :-) hope to make the next event!

I am so happy to be here. I want to thank you for all of the wonderful advice you gave me when we spoke and for leading me to Kym Adams, which is what lead me here :-) Thanks Charles. I am hoping to attend next Wednesday, trying to rearrange my schedule so that I will be able to. Have a nice weekend

Charles,

I'm a fan of ADR in general who owns and co-manages with others LinkedIn's Commercial and Industry Arbitration and Mediation Group. Kym e mailed me suggesting that I join this group, so I did.

I admittedly am not from California -- although I have two sisters who live there (one in San Diego and the other in the Sacramento area)! :)
