Mediation Marketing Minute Vol. 5

Probably the most important way a professional mediator makes the leap from occasionally mediating to being busy full time is to develop a group of clients who consistently suggest you on a short list of preferred mediators. Whether you call them "cheerleaders" "frequent flyers" or just plain "clients" it is vitally important to have you name be "out there" on a short list. The more people who have you on their short list the busier and busier you will get.

Because all sides… Continue

Mediation Marketing Minute Vol. 4

Why do some lawyers and insurance carriers go to the same mediator time and time again? As professional mediators, this question ought to be one you have pondered. What is "it" that gets you on that list for that… Continue

Mediation Marketing Minute Vol. 3

Now that we have explored our own inner game, let's focus on what matters most to the professional mediator: doing well by doing good.

For those in a financial position to do good without worry of being compensated for their services, I applaud you. For everyone else, I know you have (whether recently or years ago) agonized over what to do next in pursuit of a career that gives you personal satisfaction and a good living.

The first step is to realize that unless you are… Continue

Mediation Marketing Minute: Vol 2

Happy Monday Morning LA Mediators

After a fun Independence Day celebration, I think it apropos to talk about the Mediators "Inner Game." I believe that the Inner Game is what separates those in a given career who are successful on all levels from those who are not. In Southern California, a mediator must hone his or her Inner Game in order to compete.

So what is this "Inner Game?" It is a state of mind that is Outcome Focused. To find yours, relax and imagine how you want… Continue

Mediating Commercial and Litigated Cases with Lee Jay Berman at American Institute of Mediation

May 16, 2017 to May 20, 2017
This program is a practical training course. While covering theory to give you a framework and the intellectual understanding of negotiation and mediation, this course is about learning. Our focus is on your doing, practicing and experimenting with negotiating and mediating. There is much to teach about mediation and negotiation, but one reason mediators fail is because they understand the theory, but cannot execute it when under the gun. In this course, you will mediate and negotiate your way…See More

Grow Your Mediation Practice Now! with Lee Jay Berman at American Institute of Mediation

January 28, 2017 from 9am to 4pm
We volunteer and we gripe.  We go to “networking” events, and don’t feel comfortable there or don’t know what to do.  Many of those trying to establish a career in mediation come from prior careers in law, mental health or education.  These three careers are among the weakest at marketing and self-promotion.  Our industry suffers unnecessarily because so many are highly skilled at mediating, and yet lack the skills that enable them to secure the opportunity to actually mediate.  In this course,…See More
