LA Mediators

Mediators of Southern California

It's that time again to plan our new agenda.

Here is a recap of our fun and informative year.

Thanks to Bob and his wife Terri, we started lasts year agenda out with a “bang” they opened up their beautiful home for an entertaining night mixing it up with new friends, old friends and pure fun with delicious food. Bob raided his wine cellar and shared his finest bottles with all. Of course, mediation stories were always part of the conversation. It was a great way to start off our year. In February, we had a successful meeting on “What Lawyers expect from Mediators” Robert Fink did a fine job sharing his experiences of many years of dealing with mediators and had some very nice compliments to say about some of our members. (Nice job) In March we had “The Softerside of Mediation” a meeting where the women took over and shared their stories of mediating through a women’s eyes. April Bob sponsored a table on behalf of LA Mediators at the famous Gaelic and Garlic event. What a fun night that was too! Then in May we had “So you want to be on a Panel” Judicate West was kind enough to host this event. Rosemarie Chiusano of Judicate West, and Carry Sarnoff of PMA offered some pearls on how to get on a panel. Lastly, we ended the agenda with our second annual LA Mediators Sunday Brunch hosted by Charles and his lovely wife Charlotte. It was a pleasant afternoon for everyone and a nice way to end our season. A perfect touch at the Parselle Residence.

Now it’s time to plan for our new year. I would love to start the year out with a Mediators Bash. If we are lucky maybe Bob will talk to Trevor McShane and get the band to play some of their originals. If you haven’t heard this band play you are missing out! You can find Trevor on Facebook.

My ideas: how about “What Lawyers Expect from a Mediator II”, “Mediating a Divorce case” , “What Insurance companies expect from a Mediator”, “Mediating the Litigated Case” ( Bob taught this class to my staff and interns at IVJC and it was a huge success. He had everyone’s attention for three hours and could have taught for an additional three hours)

Another idea I had was to host “LA Mediator’s Round Table Night II” and this time we can have our cameras set up to film some mediation footage to promote our members and mediation.

Maybe a night on networking your mediation business in the twenty first century opening up some doors using Ning, FB, LinkedIn and Twitter. What do you think?

I welcome your ideas with open arms and eyes! Please share your thoughts with me by adding your comments below or send an e-mail to Charles, Bob or me.

On behalf of Charles, Bob and myself we wish everyone and fun and safe summer and we can’t wait to see you in the Fall!! Don’t forget to get those ideas to us ASAP. Think out of the Box! Remember the Taco Bell Chihuahua? He would say “I think I need a bigger box” Let us have a bigger and better new season for all! Bring on the big box thoughts. All in the name of mediation and no one does it better then each of you !!

Remember our vision for you is to continue with meetings focusing on technique, business development, and camaraderie for all!

This program is a practical training course. While covering theory to give you a framework and the intellectual understanding of negotiation and mediation, this course is about learning. Our focus is on your doing, practicing and experimenting with negotiating and mediating. There is much to teach about mediation and negotiation, but one reason mediators fail is because they understand the theory, but cannot execute it when under the gun. In this course, you will mediate and negotiate your way…See More

We volunteer and we gripe.  We go to “networking” events, and don’t feel comfortable there or don’t know what to do.  Many of those trying to establish a career in mediation come from prior careers in law, mental health or education.  These three careers are among the weakest at marketing and self-promotion.  Our industry suffers unnecessarily because so many are highly skilled at mediating, and yet lack the skills that enable them to secure the opportunity to actually mediate.  In this course,…See More
