I know when everyone opens their eyes after deep thoughts and a long contemplation of their navel, their place in the universe, or the fact that the New Orleans Saints are unbeaten, the next thought is "so what happened to Tessier's party?"
The answer is that we will have it, but it will be in January. I consulted various shamen, astrologers, and my guru, and the stars simply cannot align properly to get a December date. Rest assured, the Druid priests did no permanent damage to Stonehenge in the decision making process. As Charles was one of the original builders, he gets quite testy when the stones get rearranged.
Nevertheless, December will be a hiatus month for LA Mediators as we prepare for LA Mediators 2010. Here is a sneak preview:
In February, we will have a top notch panel of attorneys who are FREQUENT users of mediation services, both plaintiff and defense, give you a NO HOLDS BARRED view of mediation, mediators, likes, dislikes, gripes, and anything else they think of that the members would find interesting. They will have only one rule: they must be authentic and completely honest in their assessment...In my view, there is no better way to grow as a professional mediator, than to hear honest feedback from your clients.
I am really looking forward to this, and as I have mediated with all 3 panelists, expect to get trashed on style and technique. I know with that, Charles won't miss the fun!
It will be at the Judicate West facility in West Los Angeles.
Later in the year, we will have a meeting covering the topic "So you want to join a panel?" and have a representative or two from the large providers in town share what they are looking for in mediators they invite into their organizations.
The rest of the year will have the usual boozing and good fun and comraderie.
And of course, no LA Mediators curriculum would be complete without Charles addressing a cogent and timely topic in mediation. So, Charles will be the quarterback for one of our upcoming meetings (Note to Charles--"quarterback" means you are in control of the meeting) addressing the topic(s) of his choice. I will bring extra wine for this meeting, or perhaps vodka, as we are trying after all to get our CEB cert. for substance abuse.
Kym will be posting and contacting you on the expanded member benefits. We are looking at affordable videospots featuring YOU our members. The idea is to have a short spot for your personal use on your website. The spot will be professional looking, and available to all members. More on that down the road.
So, if I don't see you before the holidays, enjoy them! We have much to be thankful for this year, not the least of which is this group. We are really greater than the sum of the parts, and I look forward to a great season in 2010.
